I was sitting down with my eldest son recently when he asked me why I became a wedding videographer. The honest answer? I kind of fell into it. At the time, I was living in London and trying to break into TV and film, and wedding work wasn’t part of the plan. I soon found myself working with a weddings and live events videography company, and before I knew it, I was thrown in at the deep end - filming both spectacular and deeply intimate weddings, as well as major life events, in some of the most luxurious and exclusive venues London has to offer. I’ve always had a good eye for a shot and loved being creative in the edit, but nothing really prepares you for a live event like a wedding. It takes time to learn where to be, what kit to have ready, and just as importantly, how to interact with people and become a calm, trusted presence on one of the biggest days of their lives. In this line of work, experience really is everything. Fast forward 15 years, countless weddings and live events later, and I’ve spent that time constantly learning, adapting as trends and technology have changed, and creating films I hope people will watch and treasure for the rest of their lives. Which brings me back to my son’s question: why wedding videography? It’s true that I found my way into it out of necessity - but I’ve stayed because I love it. I love meeting new people and being trusted with their most important moments. I love the creativity and freedom to make every film feel unique, shaped by different people and different places. I love creating something that people genuinely cherish. And I love the sense of adventure and emotion that comes with life’s biggest milestones. If I’d followed my original dream of making films in Hollywood, I honestly doubt I’d feel the same level of creative freedom or pride that I do creating wedding films. What started as a marriage of convenience has, over time, become a true love story.
